Mental Health Skill Building

The goal of Mental Health Skill-Building Service (MHSS) is to provide training to enable individuals to achieve and maintain community stability and independence. Mental Health Skill-Building Services will train and assist the client with functional skills and appropriate behavior related to the individual’s health and safety, activities of daily living and use of community resources, assistance with medication management and monitoring health, nutrition and physical condition. Mental Health Skill-Building Services are provided in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment.

The objectives of these services are to stabilize mental health and substance abuse problems, increase coping skills, teach conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, increase independent living skills and decrease state hospitalization. These services will increase the individual’s overall adaptive functioning that includes but are not limited to basic living skills such as housing, education, employment, money management, and health and safety.
